  • Didn't happen.

    IMG_3367

We got up at 7:00 AM and the snow didn't look too bad.  The wind, however, was roaring like a demented monster, flinging ice and snow into every crevice.  We called the Kansas Highway Patrol.  "Interstate is completely snow-packed, icy and drifting between Junction City and Kansas City."  We called sister in Lawrence.  She had a foot of snow already and ice underneath.  We went to plan C.  We will drive to see her on New Year's Eve instead.   The rest of the family, those not from out of town, gathered here for waffles, games, chili, games, silliness and finally birthday cake in honor of His birthday.  It was a good day.  And now we get to string it out for another week.   God willing, of course.

It is my prayer that you all had a lovely Christmas, surrounded by loved ones, and that the grace of God was poured out upon you.   Merry, merry Christmas.

    Today's scriptures:  Haggai 1-2 and Revelation 16

  • Back up planning

My Dear Husband calls it weatherman hysteria.  The weather channel loves to pump it up.  They are calling for freezing rain, then on top of the ice will be snow.  We are supposed to drive to my sister's house 90 minutes from here on Christmas Day.  She called with back up plans this morning so am spending the morning contacting other sisters, nieces, children, to discuss.  I am reminded of the book of James which says "Come now, you who say 'Today or tomorrow we will go to such and such a city, spend a year there, buy and sell and make a profit.'  Whereas you do not know what will happen tomorrow.  For what is your life?  It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away.  Instead you ought to say ' If the Lord wills, we shall live and do this or that".  But now you boast in your arrogance.  All such boasting is evil."  So . . . I will only say . . . if God wills, we will travel on Christmas.  God willing.

Today's scriptures are Habakkuk 1-3 and Revelation 14.  "The just shall live by his faith."  Habakkuk 2:4

  • Remembering the ones gone

Thanks to CZ Scrap I did put up the Christmas tree.   That meant getting out the ornaments.  That meant remembering DH's Mom, and mine.  DH has three brothers and a multitude of cousins.   When DH's mother died. his cousin gave him and each of his brothers an ornament, called Heart of Gold.

The tag reads "You will always have my heart".  Karen, the cousin, said that the ornament was an acknowledgment of the special bond between boys and their mothers.

It comforts me to know there will be a reconciliation one day, and the "circle will be unbroken by and by".

Today's readings are the last two chapters of Micah, chapters 7 and 8; also Revelation chapter 12. "And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death."  Revelation 12:11

  • Took my life in my hands

and went to the mall today.  I think I'm finished, except for a couple of small things.  Still have not put up the tree.  Maybe I'll just stack the gifts and spread a string of lights over them.  Seems so silly to drag it out, put it together, decorate it for just six days.

Found out today that the church asked DS, DDIL and DGS to be Joseph, Mary and Baby Jesus at the Christmas Eve service.  They said yes.  This is quite a surprise, because DS and DDIL are both very private and rather shy.  DS said they don't have to say anything.  That probably helped them decide.  I have to figure out how to run my camcorder now.

DSIL and DD worked with DH today cutting a load of firewood and DD crushed her thumb between two logs.  Fortunately, I have much history with broken fingers and I had all the stuff to dress it.  Don't think it's broken, but it hurt bad enough to make her toss her cookies.  Poor baby.

Jail Bible study today was so cool.  How thankful I am that I get to do this.  I soooo missed my ladies while on vacation:  two Saturdays I missed.   Today a thin, broken lady gave her heart to Jesus.  She had tears streaming down her face.  I gave her a Gideon New Testament and she signed her name and the date in the back.  Another lady re-dedicated her life to Him.  She's been coming for several weeks but it has taken awhile for the chemicals to leave her enough that she can see clearly.  Today it clicked.  Christmas.  It's a love story.  The best love story of all.

Today's scriptures:   The book of Jonah (4 short chapters) and Revelation 10.  "The angel whom I saw standing on the sea and on the land raised up his hand to heaven and swore by Him who lives forever and ever, Who created heaven and the things that are in it, the earth and the things that are in it, and the sea and the things that are in it, that there should be delay no longer."  Revelation 10:5, 6.

  • Christmas Panic is setting in

I am not asking for sympathy though.  It's my own fault for not doing more prep before vacation!   I don't even have a tree yet!   My list is lengthening but I think it's doable.   Frazzled but doable.

Here are a few more photos:

IMG_3271 St. Kitt's, in front of the black lava formations.

IMG_3313 Beach Day.  Also St. Kitt's. Those are our travel companions walking ahead.  We went with two other couples, one of which was DearSon's in-laws.  How we love them. Black and brown volcanic sand.  Cool.   Did toe fishing.  This is when you stand in the ocean and pick up whatever feels interesting with your toes.  Got some great shells that way.

    IMG_3114 Sunset from the ship.

Well gotta git on my list.   While these photos downloaded, I put in a load of laundry and dusted off my nativity scene.  Two things to cross off!   So glad to be back with you, but so glad we went.   Happy Thursday, all.

We've nearly read through the Bible this year.  Today's Scriptures are the book of Obadiah (only one chapter) and Revelation 8.  "He was given much incense, that he should offer it with the prayers of the saints upon the golden altar which was before the throne.  And the smoke of the incense, with the prayers of the saints, ascended before God from the angel's hand."   Revelation 8:3, 4

About Me

  • I'm a farm wife and Mom from Kansas with two married children. Just found out I'm gonna be a grandma for the first time - in July, 2009! Hooray! I love to garden. Love critters. Love my husband and kids and grandbaby. Am an altered-book artist (and I say that tongue-in-cheek.) I scrapbook, sew, cook and go to the movies. I love my church. Beware--I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God. I want to live every moment well. I want to focus on people, not things. I want to be of use. I want to enrich others' lives instead of impoverishing them. I want the Kingdom of God to rule me. Welcome to my corner of the world wide web.
